 Role Overview:

As a Senior Production Technician at Surface Measurement Systems, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient assembly and testing of our advanced scientific instruments. Reporting to the Production Team Lead, you will provide technical expertise, mentorship, and support to the production team, contributing to the achievement of production targets and maintaining the highest standards of quality.

Responsibilities

  • Instrument Assembly and Testing:
  • Lead and supervise the assembly of scientific instruments, ensuring adherence to specifications and quality standards.
  • Conduct thorough testing and quality checks on assembled instruments to verify performance and functionality.
  • Troubleshoot any issues or defects encountered during assembly or testing, collaborating with team members to implement solutions.
  • Technical Expertise:
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on instrument assembly techniques, troubleshooting procedures, and quality control processes.
  • Provide guidance and support to production technicians, sharing knowledge and best practices to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Assist in troubleshooting complex technical issues, providing guidance and recommendations for resolution.
  • Training and Development:
  • Assist in the training and development of junior Production Technicians, providing hands-on instruction and mentoring to promote skill development and proficiency.
  • Collaborate with the Production Team Lead to identify training needs and opportunities for continuous improvement within the production team.

Responsibilities Cont. 

  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with the Production Team Lead and other departmental stakeholders to coordinate production activities, resolve issues, and optimize workflow.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure smooth operations and timely completion of production tasks.
  • Quality Assurance:
  • Support the implementation of quality control procedures and standards, conducting quality checks and inspections to maintain product quality and consistency.
  • Report any quality issues or concerns to the Production Team Lead for resolution and follow-up.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A-levels or equivalent qualifications in relevant subjects (e.g., engineering, manufacturing, science).
  • Previous experience in instrument assembly or a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong technical skills and proficiency in using hand tools, machinery, and testing equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Leadership qualities with the ability to mentor and support team members.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to upholding safety standards and ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Must have valid UK work permit.
